Prs Serial Number

  1. This Is A Very Simple Formula. PRS serial numbers are very easy to figure out. The only slightly confusing thing is. 1985 guitars start with the same number as a 1995 guitar. 1986 guitars start with the same number as a 1996 guitar 1987 guitars start with the same number as a 1997 guitar etc.
  2. Acoustic Serial Numbers. The serial number of an acoustic is located on the label inside the sound hole of the guitar. All acoustic serial numbers begin with the letter “A”, and are followed by the two digit year prefix.

Jan 8, 2014 - This week I had a counterfeit PRS Santana come in to the shop. PRS has to my knowledge always hand written their serial numbers on the.

There are a handful of stories about this guitar, but it is confirmed that this is the only one like it. You'll never have another chance to pick this one up, and the Spruce top is truly unique. Many of you know I collected the Sig LE's (a run of 300 - 303 really - PRS Signature instruments made from '87-91 with a Tone-Pros bridge and special appointments) for a while, and I managed to obtain the entire set (Maple, Redwood, Cedar) and added this special one-off guitar because it's just super freaking cool. The guitar was sold in the early 90's to keep the PRS factory open, and I'm sure they'd love to have this one for their archives.
No serial number, Artist treble and Artist Series Vintage bass pickups, Birds, and of course, the tuna tailpiece, and the guitar rips surprisingly hard. The Spruce top actually contributes a LOT of attack to the instrument, and the Artist Treble (my favorite PRS pickup, ever) adapts nicely. The guitar doesn't come with any substantive documentation, it does have the tag that was with it when it was sold (despite it apparently not being for sale...). It has notes written in the pickup cavity to 'See Joe (Knaggs)' and is designated as a R&D guitar on the back of the headstock.

Can't say I've seen the site, but I think you're referring to a MODCAT decoder - this is the full barcode/serial that's on the inside of one of the pickup cavities, rather than the headstock serial no.

    *edit* Ta-dah!!!! http://www.toragraphics.com/modcat/

  • And you're both spot on - yes it's Modcat, thanks, and it's the full serial rather than the headstock number.

  • LOL, none at all, you just want to donate them to a foster home for safe-keeping until you remember that you wanted to keep them after all!

  • Where do I find the ModCat - I can oly see the headstock number on my CU, and a number stamped on the neck plate on me CE.

@paulmapp8306 It's on your eagle hangtag....
What, you don't have the hangtag? Chop that guitar up and throw it in the fire, it's worthless.

  • I always wonder who updates those Modcat decoders. Last time I tried they couldn't find my 2011 McCarty but they bring up the correct specs for it now. They don't seem to be able to cope with S2 models though.
