Here's a question: is the extended edition the 3D presentation on the 3D blu-ray? Or is the 3D version the theatrical version and the extended edition on one of the other 2D discs?

I believe the 3D disc is only the theatrical cut. Extended is only on the 2D blu-ray and 4K.

I finally saw this today as my blu finally came in. I never saw the theatrical version, but I loved this movie. Definitely one of my favorites this year. I'd agree almost 100% with alot of the other compliments given towards this film.
After what I saw in this, I can't wait to see the upcoming other DC movies. In particular Batman of course, and the JL movies and especially Wonder Woman. As that looks awesome so far.

Watched BvSoJ/UE tonight on UHD BD (Samsung player, LG OLED).. absolutely superior to the theatrical experience in every way. Story elements, pacing, picture and sound (Atmos).
Valid complaints about certain plot elements remain as valid as ever (Lois radar, but inability to find Mom; 'Martha' = magic word; a few others). However, the movie was an overall very good experience. Snyder obviously loves certain comics, and certain movies I also love. There's a lot of thought behind the things shown in this movie, and even though it's not all gold, it works for this viewer.

Its wierd, I checked on my NVIDIA shield last night that when i go to the movies there, it says that you own, 'SD, HDX and UHD'. However it still has the Buy option for the UHD version.
I didn't actually try to watch it as I planned to watch the disc.

Watched it last night, liked the movie and maybe it's just me but I wasnt impressed with the 4k. To me it looked super grainy. Nowhere near what The Martian looks like on my JS8500

The very beginning of the movie had tons of 'grain'. Then it went to a very clean look. However I agree that the 4K presentation left little to be desired. There were just a few scenes that looked amazing towards like the end on the wayne estate, but otherwise, the picture quality didn't scream 4K like The Revenant did. Heck even Life of Pi looked a lot sharper.

I watched the 3D version of this movie last night. In the beginning, there is a funeral scene, and in 3D, it looked so 3 dimensional, that I thought it was some of the best 3D I've ever seen. It would easily qualify for a 96 to 100 rating. I could not help but think that many TV manufacturers made a huge mistake eliminating 3D from current televisions. They are still making movies in 3D and I do not feel its going to stop anytime soon. To be honest, had I not read Ralph's review, I probably would not understand what this movie was about. The plot was as others noted, confusing, and to make matters worst, I feel asleep and never got to see Wonder Woman. In any event, I will finish the movie, but I am in no rush to do so. I will say that both the audio and video are truly reference quality.

Batman Vs Superman Ultimate Edition

Didn't like the look of the movie on either my E6 with Dolby Vision, or EF9500 with HDR10. I'm not a big fan of grain and soft images. At any rate, I get the main plot that Lex is trying to start a fight between Superman and Batman by ruffling each feather's. But can someone explain to me how Lex Luther found the secret identities of both Superman and Batman?

Well to be fair this was always a 'joke' to me. To me it seemed like they made Lex in the image of the audience in the way that we all know it doesn't take much to figure it out. Superman looks like Clark Kent but with glasses. Not even a real disguise and any sane person could see it. However the superman universe is unable to put it together.
Batman resides in Gotham. Batman has super high-tech equipment which costs a lot of money. Batman is always very fit. So how many super rich people are in gotham that are fit to do battle?
Again, it doesn't take a genius to figure it out, but I want to believe they made Lex smart enough like the audience to just put 2 and 2 together.

I love when people think Batman V Superman is a new idea, that started with The Dark Knight Returns comic in 1986. The problem with this movie is they know each by reputation only. In the comic the fight takes place many years after the justice league.

I just finished the 2D extended version with the kids (20 and 21) and as first time viewers who hate commercial theaters, we thought it was an excellent movie that is well worth the purchase price.. it helps when you can pause a 182 minute movie for snacks and bathroom breaks.
Now to sample the 3D.

Looking forward to picking this up on Friday (couldn't buy it on release day, yesterday in the U.S., due to some budgetary constraints) on non-4K 2D Blu-ray (it's getting confusing to even know what kind of media we want to invest in nowadays), and I won't go into my defense of the film as one of the (apparent) few who enjoyed it theatrically (I've done the whole defending Zack Snyder and feeling like there was an agenda at play a la Josh Trank's Fantastic 4 to piss all over this film even before it came out thing in other forums). Did it have a plethora of editing, pacing and, especially in the case of Eisenberg, casting issues? Absolutely. But I still think it delivered on its promise, and can't wait for Justice League..
Anyone run the core TrueHD track yet? How does it sound?

I am surprised by the negative reviews. I just watched this and really enjoyed it. Definitely one of the better movies to work out your audio system - 100 all the way. I would much rather have a movie like this verses Deadpool. That movie was so foul with 14 year old dirty jokes that I turned it off. Really glad I bought this movie.

I haven't seen it yet at home or run the 2D Blu-ray through my system, Molon, but I was one of the few who enjoyed it theatrically; as I've mentioned countless times, you could almost feel some kind of 'agenda' at play in which certain factions (some have accused Marvel, in swirling online rumors) just wanted Snyder, Affleck and this project to fail before it was out of the gate (much like what happened with Josh Trank's Fantastic 4 reboot attempt, which was far from great but nowhere near as horrible as most 'critics' made it out to be). Did it have its faults? Sure. Was the casting COMPLETELY wrong for Luthor in the uber-annoying Eisenberg? Absolutely. Was the script lacking in many areas -- the 'motivation' behind wanting Lex to get these two to fight, et al -- and was the final sequence involving Gadot as the sexy Amazon warrior somewhat rushed and shoehorned-in? Yeah. But in general, I thought this lived up to its promise, as the hand-to-hand combat sequences (what we as comic freaks all wanted to see) were palpable, and suspension-of-disbelief wasn't as chart-toppingly necessary when trying to swallow Wayne 'getting the upper hand' over Clark by way of Kryptonite gas grenades and such. Just an fyi, the 4k hdr version of man of steel is very nice on the new format. The hdr is pretty heavy throughout the entire movie and the soundtrack IMO is better than batman vs superman. It's loud and clear all the way through. BVS was on the slow side the 1st 2 hours. Besides for the final 30 minutes of BvS, I think man of steel was consistently more impressive throughout the entire movie, instead of just the last quarter.

I watched the extended version last night - I thought it was somewhat better than the theatrical release, in that the plot in terms of what Lex was trying to do was more fleshed out, but on the whole, I still feel the film tries to cover too much ground. The desert sequence still feels way out of place, and to a lesser degree, so does squeezing in the meta-humans sub-plot.

I saw this also tonight, never saw the theater cut, but reading the additions in a comparison, I can tell they left a lot out that made the theater storyline fall or miss a its flow in many parts of the film.
We see a lot more from Superman and Lois investigations, extended fight scenes, additional sub characters content that add to the storyline.
I was concerned about the 21 Mbps that Ralph noted with HD video but the ultimate edition the combined bit rate fluctuated up to the forties even.
I would dare say that this adaption of Franks Millers Batman was the best, so much darker, more to think about, the action and gadgets stood out.
The ending wow what a tribute to how the world viewed superman before and after. Can't wait for the next one, it might make me rethink how good the Avengers really are when pressed to the wall vs the Justice League. I am glad they are making a Wonder Woman film as her fighting skills were awesome.

Sorry but I highly doubt you own it. When I launched the VUDU app on my LG OLED and clicked on it, it does indeed show 'You own' but if you look to the right of that it will say HDX, yet under it will show tags for all quality versions, tricking you into thinking you possess all of them.
At first I just paid attention to those tags and upon launching the film either the theatrical or extended cut quickly showed that HDX was my highest tier and if I wanted UHD/VISION/ATMOS I needed to pony up $30. Speaking on that, if you own the movie already it should only be at most $10 to upgrade to the UHD copy.

VUDU says, 'VUDU (UHD Exclusive)' on the content selection screen. Dolby Vision is engaged as I launch the movie. Dolby Vision Picture Mode chosen with Movie Dark under system/Picture Mode. If I see a $10 charge on my credit card from a mistaken purchase I will update the thread.

Thanks Ralph for the excellent review. Watched the first hour of the 3D version and was very impressed with the sound and the 3D effects. The warehouse scene where someone was calling from the second floor was super cool. I watched this movie in the theater and I have to say it sounded a lot better at home.
I may try to watch the UHD version for the extended cut sometime later.

I watched the Ultimate Edition the other night. Over all, I guess I liked it?.. The end fight is fantastic. The visuals are fantastic. It just seems to slump along for so long.... And did anyone else think the soundtrack was kind of odd? The music that kicks in during battles is strange and doesn't seems to fit. Its like Matrix type music.

The music the comes in when WW shows up for the final fight is a good example

i think there must have been more discussion about how to incorporate music into every scene vs what the plot was.

Loved the movie. Thought it had great visuals, great soundtrack and was able to enjoy the story for what it was.
If I had to gripe it would be the way Lex was portrayed.. I didn't mind Jessie, just the path chosen for him. My other gripe would be the same as most movies- the fight could have been avoided with a simple 'Hold on a sec Bruce, did you know Lex did X,Y,Z?' No one actually talks in movies!
I know it has been said, but this really should have been the theatrical version. GREAT directors cut.

I got this movie from Amazon and watched in in 4K with HDR on my TV (uhg, when are we gonna get good cheaper uhd 4K HRD projectors???). I cant comment on sound since I has to watch it on my TV and not in my dedicated theater with 7.1 (since I still need that projector).
I skipped it in the theater due to reviews, figured I would skip the $100 theater bill for the family and stick to the $30 4K Bluray.
What an utter disappointment all around. Ridiculous movie. Ben affleck as Batman.. uhg. Alrfed.. uhg.. I really liked this new Superman and really like the first reboot movie but this movie and its bad guy was almost a clone (actually he was a clone). Lex Luthor.. not bad but could have been better. Far to long with far to much ridiculous plot points that made no sense and were just silly.
Terrible movie and I can say that I generally like every move I watch (99% of them. I can pick up 10 bluray movies I have never heard of at a used store and like them all). I don't think I would care if I ever saw this movie again. I normally would watch a movie again in the theater with my 7.1 system in 1080P just for the sound experience.
What a travesty, I think I read that Ben Affleck was going to do another Batman movie, I hope he truly does not wreck Batman for good. I kinda wish Affleck would just retire now.
The 4K HDR presentation was barely better then 1080P in my opinion, my gold standard of the 5 movies I now own that are 4K is still Secario.

The way 3D was brought into the home is what killed 3D. From the ridiculous exclusive panasonic had with avatar initially, active 3D, and just general poorly executed 3D. With that said, I am right there with you in loving it. If it is done right (passive full resolution) it is such an experience. I actually bought a TV (sony x900a) just for 3D.
